Chosen

Updated: Jul 14

But you are not like that, for you are a chosen people.

You are royal priests, a holy nation,

God’s very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of God,

for He called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light. ~ 1 Peter 2:9

“I still love you, but I’m no longer in love with you.”

Those words, spoken by my husband of ten years, imploded my carefully constructed world.  My mind reeled and my stomach heaved.  I collapsed on the bathroom floor sobbing uncontrollably.

This could not be happening…not to me!  I was a faithful, devoted wife who adored him.  He was my best friend.  He was my identity.

But he made a choice and it wasn’t me.

Merriam-Webster defines chosen as: one who is the object of choice or of divine favor; an elect person; selected or marked for favor or special privilege.

I write from the perspective of a single, divorced, motherless woman.  I am no one’s priority: I come after a friend’s husband and kids.  While that’s the order of priority as it should be, it’s still hard to not feel insignificant.  A left over and left out. Unchosen. It’s easy to wallow in self-pity…which is why it’s vital for me to step back, regroup and look at my situation from a different perspective -- through the lens of Truth.

God chose me. He chose to reveal Himself to me.  He wants me to walk daily with Him.  He sent His only Son, Jesus Christ, to die on a cross for me.  Through Jesus, God has made a way for me to spend eternity with Him.  Me.  For all eternity with the Creator of the Universe.

Truth:   Never doubt it: as a follower of Christ, you are chosen by the Most High God.  He loves you with an infinite, unfailing love. He created you to be perfectly you and He treasures you.  You are chosen to be His very own possession.

How about you?

What does it mean to you to know God has chosen you?  Knowing God has sought you and chosen you, what are you going to do differently today?

Lord,

When I feel lonely and unchosen, may I remember that You have chosen me!  You love me with an everlasting, unconditional love.  I am a worthy treasure, a royal daughter of the Most High King!
